Chef’s Dinner in My Home – A Priceless Fundraiser Auction Item

Last year my husband and I were lucky enough to “win” a live auction item at a fundraiser as I like to say it (husband translation:  we totally outbid the others).  The fundraiser was held at our local Jasper’s RestaurantJasper’s closed the restaurant that evening to the public to hold the event.

FIRST – A LITTLE BACKGROUND

We frequently dine at Jasper’s, so I knew Chef Kent Rathbun was the owner of 3 Jasper’s and 2 other restaurants.  Since I’m also a Food Network Channel ‘junkie’, I already was quite familiar with Chef Kent Rathbun’s reputation.  In case you are not, let me share a little of his background with you.

Kent Rathbun entered the food business at the age of 14 as a dishwasher.  By the age of 17, he was working as an apprentice in a 5-star restaurant where his mother worked.  It was there Rathbun gained experience working with high-end ingredients and learned the art of perfect preparation.

In 1999, Rathbun opened his first restaurant, Abacus.  Over the years, Abacus has earned numerous accolades and awards including AAA Four Diamonds, Forbes Travel Guide Four Stars, and Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.  Rathbun has also been nominated as the James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef:  Southwest in 1999, 2002, 2003, and 2004.

He has appeared on several TV shows including the CBS Early Show and NBC’s Today Show.  In 2008, Chef Kent Rathbun competed on Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” and defeated Chef Bobby Flay! (Source:  Kent Rathbun Concepts

THE FUNDRAISER

Typical of fundraisers, we were able to peruse the auction items during the cocktail hour.  So I was thrilled when I saw one of the live auction items was “Dinner for 8 Prepared by Chef Kent Rathbun in Your Home”!  I immediately told my husband I planned on “winning” this item – which, as I previously mentioned,  I did.

Over several months, I worked with Jasper’s Sales Manager, Meredith Osani, to find a mutually agreed upon date (we were also in the midst of planning a wedding).  We found a date late in the fall of last year that worked for all of us.  I continued to work with Meredith regarding the specifics of the evening.  She asked me if we had any food items we wanted, did not want to eat, allergies, etc. I told her we would be fine with whatever menu they came up with.

THE DINNER

The “Chef Dinner” at our home was an extraordinary experience!  I’m sure my husband would now even admit it was well worth our donation to a good cause.

Here’s a look back at our fantastic evening.

InspirationalDetails.com

Several days before our dinner, Meredith emailed me a copy of the menu that was planned for our dinner.  I had forgotten to mention my husband doesn’t care for coconut, but told Meredith my husband and I thought the menu looked great, and he would be okay with the dessert.  She insisted they would change the dessert to something else.

We were quite elated to see how many courses we would be having.  I also asked Meredith if she could check with Chef for some wine recommendations (pairings) to go with each of the courses.

I set a simple table –  in the kitchen – wanting to be able to observe the cooking and  preparation of the entire meal (staying interactive).  I used my Woodlands Spode dishes since it was late fall.

InspirationalDetails.com

I put a copy of the menu in a frame on the table for our guests

Our guests were due to arrive at 6:45 p.m.  I had asked Meredith approximately what time to expect Chef Kent.  She replied that Chef Kent and Chef Brian (who I did not know at that time, but knew he had helped Chef Kent create our menu for the evening) would arrive about 5:00.  I assumed Chef Brian would help Chef Kent get set up and then depart.  Boy, was I wrong!

They did arrive around 5:00 – in a car and in a truck!!  Five of them:  Chef Kent, Chef Brian, Meredith, and 2 others.  I should have gotten a clue as to what the evening was going to be like when one of them commented on what a pretty table I had set, and did I want to use my own dishes for the meal?!!

To put it simply, the evening was like eating in a 5-star restaurant in your own home!

They brought all kinds of dishes and  pots and pans in addition to the food.  All five of them stayed the entire evening.  Chef Brian O’Neill McNamara I learned was the Executive Chef at Jasper’s (for five years).  The “other 2”  were a sous chef and one of Jasper’s best wait staff. ..and excellent wait staff he was.  Not only did he serve each course to each of us, refill our wine glasses, but also if one of us got up from our chairs (which I did a lot to take photos), he folded up our napkin and reset it on the table (just like at a  5-star restaurant).

Meredith, Chef Kent Rathbun, and Chef Brian McNamara discuss a few things before our guests arrive.  Note:  I apologize for the quality of the photos – I wasn’t sure how the chefs would feel about me constantly taking photos throughout the evening, so I quickly snapped photos from a phone.  I learned afterwards that they had absolutely no problem with me taking pictures (next time…)

None of us had eaten pork cheek prior to this evening.  Chef Kent told us most likely if we were to order pork cheek in a restaurant as a main entrée, we would be served two of them, but due to the numbers of courses we were being served it was only one which was plenty.

This course was definitely a favorite of all of us – it was divine!!

How delightful is this for a late fall dessert, and garnished with sweet edible violas?!!  I don’t think any of us indulged in eating the violas, but from my understanding they are one of the few edible flowers that actually taste good…

BRIEF SUMMARY OF OUR CHEF’S DINNER

The whole evening far exceeded my expectations.

I appreciated all the attention to details they provided and the time it took for doing all the extra steps – like garnishes, pretty sauces, edible flowers, the additional ingredients that added one more flavor, taste, or texture to the courses.

They didn’t rush us at all throughout the evening.

And finally, the impeccable service and the warmth and friendliness of each of them.

COMMENTS ON A CHEF’S DINNER AS AN AUCTION ITEM IN A FUNDRAISER

My husband and I attended the same fundraiser this year.  Once again, Jasper’s donated a “Chef’s Dinner with Kent Rathbun”.  Word must have gotten out how much we enjoyed our dinner last year because I was utterly outbid this year.  Meredith who was at the fundraiser and seeing how much the dinner went for promptly got on the phone with Chef Kent.  Jasper’s (& Kent Rathbun!) were extremely generous and donated a second “Chef Kent Dinner”.  I am very happy to report that we “won” the second Chef’s Dinner.   It is planned for early fall this year, and I am hoping to take much better photos of the evening this time around.

TIP

Certainly we won’t be forgetting our memorable dinner for a while and are looking forward the next one.  Even if your fundraiser cannot get a Celebrity Chef like Kent Rathbun to donate a dinner for 8, any dinner prepared by a chef in a home is a “priceless” auction item and well received at a fundraiser.  Consider asking the venue where your fundraiser is held at to have their chef donate a night to cook in someone’s house, or possibly have a cooking/baking lesson with the chef at the venue itself.

The last time my Book Club got together we discussed the book, Life in a Jar:  The Irena Sendler Project.  Another gal hosted our group for a lively lunch and discussion.

Irena Sendler hid her list of names of the 2,500 children she saved by putting each of their names in a jar and burying the jar outside under an apple tree.  Sendler dug up the jar and reburied it at nighttime with the addition of each new name.

Our hostess cleverly displayed several jars and various glass containers – to symbolize the jar in the book.

THE BOOK

InspirationalDetails.com

Brief Overview of the Book

Life in a Jar: The Irena Sendler Project by Jack Mayer is a powerful story of the Holocaust and more. First, it is the story of the extraordinary Irena Sendler, the great rescuer of Warsaw. It is also the inspirational story of students from Kansas, each carrying their own painful burden, each called in their own complex way to the history of a Catholic woman who knocked on Jewish doors in the Warsaw ghetto and, in Sendler’s own words, “tried to talk the mothers out of their children.” Inspired by Irena Sendler, they are living examples of the power of one person to change the world and models for young people everywhere.” (Source:  www.irenasendler.org )

The three Kansas (all female) students called the most valuable lesson they learned from their project, “the power of one” – that one person truly can make a difference.  This was Irena Sendler’s message to the world, and this message was quite evident throughout the book.

Our Book Club Review

A remarkable read!

My Book Club had a very good discussion about the book.  We found the book not only to be an amazing story, but also an inspiring and moving one.  It also reminded all of us never to forget the horrors that went on during World War II.

ANOTHER RECOMMENDED READ

InspirationalDetails.com

A fairly new author to the writing scene is Adam Mitzner.  If you’re a fan of John Grisham or Joseph Finder books, then you’ll probably like Mitzner’s books as well.  Loosing Faith is Mitzner’s third novel.  His books are quick, fast-paced reads – all mysteries with an attorney as the main character.

“Yad Vashem”

Hebrew for ‘memory of a name”

The two rules from her parents that Irena Sendler lived her life by:

“Remember that the people can be divided only into good and bad; it doesn’t matter what religion, what race, and what nation the person is descended.”

“When somebody is drowning, this person needs to be rescued.”

A Lovely Afternoon Bridal Tea

Wedding journey - InspirationalDetails.com

My sister-in-law gave the loveliest bridal tea for my daughter.

My sister-in-law happens to be not only a great hostess, but a good cook as well.  I have always found her to be a source of inspiration for many years.

My sister-in law wanted the tea to be an intimate size – no more people than could fit around her dining room table.  (A good idea!)  It was also agreed upon the invitation would read “No Gifts Please” as my daughter was to have an upcoming shower those guests would also be invited to.

The Sunday afternoon of the tea turned out to be a beautiful, sunny spring day…

Bridal tea - InspirationalDetails.com

Can you believe this is what we saw when each of us walked through her front door?!!  It was stunning…

The blue table overlays and gorgeous flowers everywhere took your breath away.  Now that my daughter had (finally) made her wedding color decision (aqua), my sister-in-law had taken the color and ‘run with it’.  I knew right then I’d be copying her blue tablecloth idea for upcoming showers.

Bridal shower tea - InspirationalDetails.com

How captivating is this?!!

All that pretty blue color set off by the sparkle of the mirror chargers and crystal candlesticks…

Beautiful china and lace napkins…Simple but oh, so elegant

Lovely bridal tea - InspirationalDetails.com

No shower gifts for the bride-to-be (with the exception of three very special gifts from the hostess herself), but it didn’t stop my sister-in-law from giving each guest a gift…

The gift boxes were tied with blue ribbon and secured with a pretty rhinestone clip.

Blue theme bridal shower tea - InspirationalDetails.com

The bride-to-be’s place of honor…

The chair was tied with long blue ribbon and a darling fascinator was attached.  My daughter loves fascinators.  The fascinator (or a fancy hat) also represented something you would wear in England while having tea or attending a wedding ceremony.  A couple of others attending the shower happened to wear fancy hats with the same thought.

In case you’re not familiar with what a fascinator is (like several of my friends), here’s a link to Wikipedia for a brief explanation.

This “fascinator idea” was also copied and used at a later bridal shower and even on my daughter’s wedding day.  Female guests were encouraged to wear fascinators to the wedding ceremony.

lovley bridal shower tea - InspirationalDetails.com

This unique wrapped box held two special gifts from my sister-in-law to her niece.  She gave my daughter a crystal brooch that had been my mother’s (who has passed on).  The other gift was a wedding garter.  In addition to being a great hostess, the woman can sew too.  She made my daughter a wedding garter with fabric from my mother’s wedding dress train.

The bride-to-be wore the wedding garter on her wedding day and we had the florist firmly attach the brooch into the front of her wedding bouquet for all to see.  So my daughter “carried part of her grandmother” with her on her wedding day.  We also fulfilled the “something old” part of the good luck tradition too for the bride-to-be.

Bridal shower tea - InspirationalDetails.com

I think one of the most extraordinary things my sister-in-law did on that day was to display my mother’s wedding dress.

Bridal tea - InspirationalDetails.com

My sister-in-law took the dress out of storage, carefully ironed it, and stuffed the dress with tissue paper to give it presence.  If you look closely, you can see she added a pearl necklace and a pearl bracelet to the dress just like my mother wore on her wedding day.  It truly was a Wow!

More beautiful flowers in her powder room…I just love her antique flower stand!

The sideboard held all sorts of refreshments for us to drink except for the (hot) tea which was on a separate serving piece (no photo).

She also had numerous family wedding photos (including “yours truly”) on display throughout several rooms (similar to what I did for The Engagement Party).  A framed photo of my parents’ wedding sits on the sideboard.

LAST LOOK

The atmosphere my sister-in-law provided was so beautiful yet relaxing…all of us enjoyed a long, delightful afternoon filled with good food, good company, and good conversation.

I hope you found some inspiration from my sister-in-law’s bridal tea as much as I did.

If you take a peek out her kitchen window, you’ll see this nice spot in her backyard to chat, sip a glass of ice tea,  or read a book alongside her charming fireman statute.  Her son (my nephew) is a fireman.

“The Beauty”…Travels of a Suitcase

My daughter and I just got back from our annual/biennial trip to sunny Arizona – “a mom/daughter long weekend jaunt” for some R & R, pool time, spa time, girl time, etc.

The day before we left had me wondering if my daughter would still be traveling with her beloved suitcase, “The Beauty” .  There was talk before she got married last year that she and her-then-fiancé might get new luggage after they got married, and I forgot to ask them if they ever did.

I originally purchased my daughter’s suitcase when she was about 8 or 9 years old.  At the time, our family was taking our first ‘lengthy’ vacation, and we figured our kids were old enough that we should get full size suitcases for each of them.   I purchased a flowered one for my daughter thinking her suitcase would be a little more special (feminine maybe??) than the other typical black suitcases I was buying.

Waiting for our luggage in Baggage Claim that first time after returning home, we were able to spot her suitcase coming from ‘a mile away’.  She (being The Beauty) really stood out from all the other suitcases.

InspirationalDetails.com

It was at that moment, my daughter and I both realized that her suitcase was so ugly that she was beautiful, and hence we officially named her suitcase The Beauty”.

InspirationalDetails.com

So the day before my daughter and I were to leave for Arizona this year, I started thinking about all the travels, miles, & experiences The Beauty had, and now hoping my daughter and her husband never got that new luggage they talked about…

~Travels with The Beauty~

The Beauty went on trips, with my daughter when she was a little girl (and into her teen years),  to places such as Colorado, Arizona, Disney World, NYC, and California, and even more exotic travels to Hawaii and Alaska.

The Beauty also went away to college with my daughter and lived in the dorm with her for four years.

As my daughter left her teen years and got older, she and The Beauty traveled to far away places including London, Paris, Italy, and Spain.  It was also in this time period the “3 of us”, along with my typical black suitcase, took our first “Girls Trip” to Arizona.  And yes, I’m happy to report The Beauty traveled with us once again on our recent trip back to Arizona.

Also, last year,  The Beauty traveled to Greece and Turkey on a honeymoon, and she has even settled into a new home.

The Beauty – happy to be back in Arizona for our recent “Girls Trip”…

The Beauty arrives home once again…

She may be old, weathered, and somewhat battered but The Beauty remains forever loved and beautiful…a real standout!

Gourmet Group “Grill Master” Tablescape and Menu

Some info about our Gourmet Group:  We are 4 couples who enjoy cooking, entertaining, and most of all, each other’s company.
We take turns hosting in our homes.  The hosts decide on the menu (theme) from appetizers to dessert for the evening.  The hosts cook most of the meal, but give at least one course (along with all the recipes) to the other couples to prepare.  We love trying new recipes and ideas.  So most of the time, the recipes are ones we haven’t cooked before, but they don’t have to be.

Get Fired Up!

Grilling Season is Upon Us…

Here’s a look at the grilling theme  & menu we put together when we hosted Gourmet Group at our house last summer.

Dress Shopping for the Bride-to-Be and Her Girls

The Bridal Gown…

Vera Wang…

When my daughter was about 16 years old, she decided that she “planned on” wearing a Vera Wang Wedding Dress at her future wedding (and this was well before David’s Bridal started carrying Vera Wang White at their stores).  My reply to her declaration was, “Good luck with that, and you better start saving every penny you earn for that dress!”

So fast forward several years and here we were, ready to shop – for real – for my daughter’s bridal gown.  No, she never did save enough of her money for a Vera Wang Bridal Gown, and no, we didn’t have a wedding budget that allowed for one either.

On a side note, though, my daughter did secure Vera Wang Black for the men’s tuxedos for her wedding.

The Basic Game Plan She and I Had for Shopping for “The Dress “

1.  We set a budget on the price of her wedding gown.  If my daughter decided she “had to have” a dress over that amount, she would pay the additional amount.  The possibility to scale back spending on another wedding expense, such as flowers, and increase her dress budget, was not an option.

2.  She would be willing to try on all styles of dresses and not just the style(s) she envisioned.  She would keep an open mind…

Martha Stewart Weddings

3.  Just the two of us would shop at multiple bridal salons and narrow down her choices to a few before asking any of my daughter’s entourage to shop with us.

Over the course of the next several months, we (always) made appointments and shopped at various bridal salons, as well as department store salons.  One tip my sister-in-law passed on to me which I appreciated and found to be true was to let the saleswomen help my daughter put the gowns on her and take them off – due to the heavy weight of the gowns.  A gal in one store did not offer to help and so I helped my daughter.  I never did it again.  The bridal saleswomen are professionals and truly know how to manage the wedding dresses best.

My daughter tried on all styles, and fairly quickly, we eliminated certain styles that didn’t look as well on her as others.  She also didn’t limit the color of the dresses either and actually could see herself wearing a pink or blush-colored dress. Eventually, we got our search down to two specific bridal salons that had the dresses we both liked best.  It was time to invite her entourage to shop with us…

And finally, my daughter said “Yes to the Dress”.

It ended up to be one of the first dresses she tried on and was originally displayed on a mannequin.  My daughter didn’t like the dress when she first looked at it, but I convinced her to at least try it on.  She did, and we both loved the dress on her!

Shopping for the Bridesmaids’ Dresses

I chose not to be too involved in the selection of the bridesmaids’ dresses.  I felt it really should be the bride and her attendants’ choice.  After all, it was her wedding, and they would be the ones wearing the dresses.  The only real involvement I had was when my daughter and I were shopping for her dress, if we had the time at the bridal salons, we would also look at the bridesmaid dresses so she could get a feel for the different styles and colors available.

As I mentioned in The Engagement Party post, at that time and for several months afterwards, my daughter did not have a specific color, style or even a length in mind for her bridesmaid dresses.  Then she and her fiancé went to a friend’s wedding that was quite informal – so informal that many of the guests wore jeans to the wedding.  It was after attending this wedding, my daughter determined she did not want any jeans attire happening at her own wedding.  Consequently, her wedding then became a “Black Tie Invited” affair…

And one bridesmaids’ dress decision was made – her girls would be wearing long dresses…

Since my daughter’s Maid of Honor was the only bridesmaid who lived in the same area, it left just the two of them to do the dress shopping.  I do believe, though, my daughter would run the dress options by the other girls during the process.  My daughter liked the idea of picking one dress color or hues of the same color, and then letting each girl pick out their own dress style (as long as the dress came in a long length).  I also loved this idea for two reasons:  her girls, like most bridesmaids, were different heights and weights, and I think it makes the wedding party visually more interesting and fun to look at.  It also lets the bridesmaids display a little of their own taste in fashion.

The bride-to-be and MOH began their search.  A month went by, then another, and another… the wedding plans pretty much came to a halt  –  until the “color” was chosen which drove many of the other wedding details and decisions to be made.  Finally, the girls had chosen a dress designer and a color.  Only to change the color again a couple of weeks later for one last time

Ultimately, the girls chose an aqua (Tiffany blue) for their dress color.  The dresses were designed by Wtoo (Watters).  The girls could choose any Wtoo dress as long as it was in a long length and made in a crystal chiffon fabric.  They also would wear any silver sandals/shoes of their choosing.

The Maid of Honor’s Dress

Both my daughter and I felt that her maid of honor (since she had a special role in the wedding and had played a major part in their dress shopping) should be able to pick her style of dress first.  In addition, the style of the dress she chose would be reserved for only her to wear – none of the other bridemaids could choose that style.

The Junior Bridesmaids

My niece’s delightful daughters (who were ages 8 and 10 at that time) were the junior bridesmaids.  My daughter wanted the younger girls to feel totally comfortable in the bridesmaid dresses they would wear.  So she left it up to them to decide on a color (as long as it didn’t clash with the aqua), and whether they wanted to wear long or short dresses.

On a day off of school, my niece made an appointment for them at a local bridal shop.  They asked me to go along for input.  Since my daughter was working, she was not able to go.  Both girls tried on various styles and colors of dresses at the bridal shop (unfortunately in sizes much too large for their size).  They didn’t love any of the dresses, but did make one decision – they decided they wanted to wear short dresses.

My niece then took it upon herself and spent a lot of time internet-dress-shopping for her girls.  She and her husband would have to buy two dresses, so keeping the cost down was also a concern.  After much looking, and some trails and errors, my niece finally found a dress on a department store website she thought would work.  She ordered the dress in sizes to fit her daughters.  When they received the dresses, my niece asked my daughter and I to come look at the dresses on her girls.

My daughter and I loved the dress(es)!  We thought it was elegant, yet very appropriate for their ages.  And the color appeared to be a close match to the bridesmaid dress swatch we had at the time…

Both juniors looked just beautiful the day of the wedding, and their dresses ended up to be a perfect match to the bridesmaids’ dress color!

Now that a “color theme” was chosen for the wedding, we could now continue in our Wedding Journey and make other decisions towards The Big Day.

The book we discussed was The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown.  Most of us rated this book a 4 1/2 or 5 (out of a 5).  One or two gals gave it a 3-4 mainly because it is such a lengthy book.

To put it briefly:

When I first read a short synopsis of this book I thought it was an “Unbroken Wannabe”, but with a more boring sport.  Boy, was I wrong – Daniel James Brown had me totally sucked into this book by the first several pages of the book.   Even though this book is about the true story of these 9 young men, I loved how Brown really told their story through the perspective of only one of them, Joe Rantz.  Another major reason I was so smitten with this book is I learned so many interesting facts about the American West during this time period I hadn’t known before.  I also learned so much about the sport of rowing, and most certainly no longer see it as a ‘boring sport’.   I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by Daniel James Brown.

This book is also an inspiring true story about a blind man, Michael Hingson (also the author), and his guide dog (Roselle) who were in Tower I on September 11, 2001.  Hingson writes about their incredible escape together (and trust in each other) from the 78th floor of the Tower to finally getting out of the building alive.  Moreover, we learn about Hingson’s extraordinary life.  The book gives some great insights into the daily challenges, experiences, and discriminations blind people face on a daily basis.   Hingson also provides some interesting information on guide dogs.  Dog lovers, like myself, will especially appreciate this book.  I was saddened, however, to learn of the passing of his beloved Roselle in 2011.

“God does not present insurmountable problems.
Instead, He gives us challenges, waits for us to overcome them, and then rejoices.”

Italian Dinner Tablescape

Some info about our Gourmet Group:  We are 4 couples who enjoy cooking, entertaining, and most of all, each other’s company.
We take turns hosting in our homes.  The hosts decide on the menu (theme) from appetizers to dessert for the evening.  The hosts cook most of the meal, but give at least one course (along with all the recipes) to the other couples to prepare.  We love trying new recipes and ideas.  So most of the time, the recipes are ones we haven’t cooked before, but they don’t have to be.

Another couple in our Gourmet Group hosted an “Italian Dinner” night at their house.  Here’s a look at the beautiful Italian-themed tablescape she put together.

A Wedding Journey: The Bride-to-Be Asks Her Maids

InspirationalDetails.com

Most brides-to-be ask their girls fairly soon after they get engaged.  My daughter chose not to ask for a couple of months.  She knew who she was planning on asking, but until she figured out how she was going to ask them she decided to wait until then.

Times have certainly changed.  When I got engaged about “a hundred years ago”, I just asked my girls and that was it.  Not anymore.  Nowadays, it is usually done with some type of creative touch (and expense) to it.

Where was my daughter’s starting point for inspiration?  Where else these days?  Pinterest, of course.

All of her bridesmaids except for the Maid of Honor lived out-of-state.  So it required my daughter to mail her “Asking Boxes” instead of personally delivering them.

Your Responsibilities

“Attend every shower, wear a heinous dress, tell me how pretty I am, and buy me lots of really extravagant gifts. Just kidding…except maybe about the “tell me how pretty I am” part. There’s no one in the world that I would rather have by my side on the most important day of my life. I love you, and your friendship means the world to me. Dance your ass off. Drink way too many glasses of champagne. Wipe away my happy tears because I will probably be a basket case. Have the time of your life. Oh and maybe help me pee, too!”

The Dreaded Dresses

“Still a work in progress, but I’m hoping to nail this down in the next couple weeks or so. As of right now, I’m leaning toward something in a coral or cranberry-ish color that’s long with several different styles/necklines to choose from, similar to the pictures below. Sarah XX is my co-pilot in this endeavor, so please direct any complaints in her direction. Just kidding. I promise no 80’s ruffles or bows. However, I cannot promise it’ll be “something you’ll wear again” because, let’s be honest…it’s a bridesmaid dress.”

ASKING HER JUNIOR BRIDESMAIDS

My niece’s sweet young daughters were junior bridesmaids in the wedding party.  Of course, my daughter wanted to ask them (who were 10 and 8 years old at that time) in a different (no gift of champagne!), but still a very special way.  (These girls are the same ones I blogged about in a previous blog post, Kids’ Party Ideas.)

I think she found a great way to ask.

A Wedding Journey: The Engagement Party…

a wedding journey blog

My daughter got married several months ago.

I utterly loved the whole “Wedding Journey” experience.  Yes, of course, there were some stressful times, but overall it was such an exciting and happy time.   Being a detail person, I loved planning every tiny detail of the wedding with my daughter.

“A Wedding Journey” (series of posts) will be a look back at this memorable time in our lives beginning with “The Engagement Party” to finally “The Big Day”.
